USB Memory Sticks

USB memory sticks are the perfect solution for moving data around with you from one pc to another. They are also great for backing up files as they act as an external storage solution. As the name suggest USB memory sticks connect to your pc via a spare usb port. Once inserted they will appear as a new drive on your computer. You can then easily drag files to the drive or remove files from it in the same way as you would with your computers internal hard drive. The great thing with memory sticks is that they are portable meaning you can easily move data around with you. I

f you are using Windows Vista there is another feature of memory sticks that may be beneficial. It's called ReadyBoost and if the drive is Readyboost enable you can use part of the capacity to increase your cimputers internal Ram meaning programs run faster and the output of your pc will generally improve. USB memory sticks are available in capacites ranging from 1GB up to 64GB. Many of the memory sticks on the market today are USB 2.0 compatible which is currently the USB port format for most users. This is a relatively high speed port enabling a good data transfer rate. Recently USB 3.0 was released. This is a new USB port format and it can operate at 10x the speeds of USB 2.0. This is still a new format but there are a few USB memory sticks on the market that are USB 3.0 compatible. To benefit from the high speeds though you will need to make sure that your USB ports are USB 3.0 rather than USB 2.0
