SD or Secure Digital memory
cards are a digital media format that are
universally compatible with many of the
latest digital devices including digital
cameras, digital camcorders, mobile phones,
MP3 players and PDA's.
The standard Secure
Digital card measures 24mm x 32mm x
2.1mm. SD cards are by far the most
universally used memory card format in
todays marketplace. The standard SD card now
has capacities ranging from 128mb up to 2GB.
The Micro-SD card memory card however
is the smallest of the SD memory card family
and has been designed for use primarily in
mobile devices such as mobile phones and
PDA's.
The Micro-SD measures a tiny 15mm x 11mm x
0.7mm and is about the size of the average
fingernail. Most mobile phones can use Micro
SD cards up to 2GB but Sandisk has recently
introduced the Micro-SDHC memory card. This
stands for Micro-SD High Capacity and is
available in capacities of 4GB and upwards.
There are however only a handful of mobile
devices that can use this new format and you
should check before buying that your device
will support Micro-SDHC.
The Micro-SD card
is also known as the Transflash memory card.
Micro SD cards are
becoming ever more popular today with the
introduction of mobile phones that can store
high quality music and video along with high
MegaPixel cameras. Micro Sd is used by all
of the large mobile phone manufacturers
including Nokia, Samsung and Motorola.
All Micro-SD cards come supplied with a
standard SD (Secure Digital) adaptor which
allows the user not just to use the Micro-SD
card in their mobile phone but also in their
SD compatible digital cameras and camcorder.
